CLASSES

What is parkour?

Parkour is a discipline or sport in which athletes move through a complex environment using a variety of techniques to navigate the obstacles in their path. Generally a parkour practitioner will use structures like walls, ledges, or bars to create physical and mental challenges that allow them to practice, test, and improve their skills.

Parkour can be hard to explain, but you know it when you see it! It can be as small as balancing on a curb or hopping from rock to rock in a creek; or it could be as challenging as a stuntman jumping, diving, and flipping in the latest superhero movie! Parkour incorporates running, jumping, climbing, and acrobatics into a skill set for moving through complex terrain.

Parkour is very diverse and we encourage people to try all aspects and pursue what speaks to them. Challenges can range from speedy obstacle course runs, to creative flowing sequences, technical climbs, and more. This diversity allows parkour to be a fun movement practice for all age and ability levels. Parkour can improve physical fitness and increase agility, balance, and body awareness. There is also a strong mental element in parkour through problem solving, risk management, goal setting, and perseverance.

If trying parkour seems daunting, remember that often what you see in the media are snapshots of athletes’ greatest successes or worst failures. We don’t see the countless hours of practice and play that those athletes did to reach that point. We strive to build a community that encourages healthy parkour practice of all types and levels. If you’re interested in trying it out, then we encourage you to embrace the challenge of trying something new!  We’ll be here to teach you the fundamentals and help guide you on your parkour journey, wherever that may lead.

What is aerial silks?

Flying Frog Academy has partnered with Carolina Wolohan to offer aerial silks classes!

“Aerial silks combines dance, athletics and acrobatics in order to create movement through air using a fabric. In our classes we will teach to your level, starting by using the fabric as a supportive sling and moving towards more fluid and acrobatic movements off the ground as students advance. These classes are open to anyone, no matter how small your movement background; we will help you advance at your pace.”

Can anyone do parkour and aerial silks?

Yes! There is no experience required for beginner level classes, and instructors will make modifications for your fitness level and abilities.

If you would like to discuss any specific questions or needs with us, we encourage you to email us at info@flyingfrogfreerunning.com or call us at (707) 292-8201.

What do I need for my class?

All Classes:
  • Wear clothing that you can move, sweat, and go upside down in!
  • Avoid jewelry that could catch on equipment or on your body.
  • We do have a drinking fountain, but we recommend bringing a water bottle!
Parkour:
  • Bring athletic shoes with rubber soles for good grip! You’ll have the option to go barefoot, but some equipment (bars, etc.) may be uncomfortable in bare feet.
Aerial Silks:
  • Wear tight fitting but mobile clothes – tights or yoga pants are great! You will be going upside down, so wear clothes that can be tucked in! Please also have the backs of your knees, stomach and armpits covered to help prevent fabric burns. Leotards are great but not necessary especially for your first few classes!
  • Don’t wear jewelry, and don’t wear clothing with zippers, buttons, snaps, etc. as these can catch on the silks.

Do I need special shoes or socks for my parkour class?

We recommend athletic shoes, but you can always do parkour barefoot if needed! Some things in class are easier with shoes, ideally shoes that don’t slip off easily and have rubber soles on the bottom for grip.

Any athletic shoe with a rubbery sole will work, but we also have a list of recommendations from our coaches.

What are your payment options for classes? Can I switch between parkour, aerial silks, etc.

Your first class is discounted at $25! Click here to get started.

Loved your first class and are thinking about scheduling more? We offer different membership options depending on your age. To see information on your specific age range pricing options, visit our Pricing page.

In general Aerial Silks does have completely different pricing options, so under most circumstances you cannot switch between Aerial Silks and Parkour Classes within one membership.  The exception to this is for our Adults with an Unlimited Parkour + Silks membership.

CAMP

What happens at camp?

Each camp day is divided between skill training, group games, and Open Gym time. During skill training, campers learn and practice specific movements like jumping and landing, hanging and swinging, balancing, vaulting, and more! Campers will play a variety of movement-based group games, and participate in fun challenges. During Open Gym time, campers get to choose where they want to play and what they want to work on in the gym, supervised by our awesome camp coaches. Click here to see our upcoming Parkour, Ninja Warrior, or NERF camps and activities

Doors open for drop-off at 8:45 AM and camp activities begin at 9:00 AM. Please check in at the front desk when you arrive. Campers have two 15-minute snack breaks (morning and afternoon) and a 30-minute lunch at 11:30. Pick-up is at 2:00 PM. Sign-out details will be emailed to you when you register.

What should my child bring for camp?

CLOTHING: Wear clothes that are comfortable to move around in and athletic shoes, preferably with rubbery grip on the bottom! Depending on the season, the gym space may be chilly in the morning and/or toasty in the afternoon. Especially with all the garage doors open! We recommend bringing a sweatshirt and dressing in layers.

FOOD & DRINK: Bring a water bottle and a lunch! There is NOT food available for purchase at our location and we do not provide any food at this time. You are welcome to pack extra snacks for your camper!

No electronics during camp hours!  If a child brings their phone or ipad they will be asked to put it away if they are seen using it. Limited phone use may be allowed in the case of communication with a parent.

Is my child the right age for camp?

Camp is intended for kids ages 6-14!

If your child is 5 ½ – 6 years old and is a consistent weekly Flying Frog student, please ask your child’s class coach if it’s a good time for them to try a day of camp! You can also ask at the front desk and we can help you get that information from your coach.

Every Flight Night includes pizza and popsicles for the kids to enjoy! Reservations are required to guarantee your spot! Click here to see more about our Flight Nights.

Is food provided at Flight Night?

We no longer provide food at flight night!  So sorry for any inconvenience.

We recommend participants eat before flight night, but people are welcome to bring food with them if need be.

What should my child bring to Flight Night?

Wear clothes that are comfortable to move around in and ideally athletic shoes with rubbery grip on the bottom, and bring a water bottle!  If you think your child will need some food within the 3 hour period, you may also want to pack them a couple snacks.

We have plenty of NERF blasters and standard size darts for all participants to use, but you are also welcome to bring your own. Please write your child’s name on their blaster. Blasters brought to Flight Night may be handled by other kids! Please do not bring blasters that use other types of darts!

PARTIES

How do your parties work?

We offer parties for anyone turning age 6 or older – including adults! Our parties are also great for scout troops, team celebrations, and more. All parties are 2 hours long, and are supervised by Flying Frog staff.

All of our parties are 2 hours long. First up is 1.5 hours of coach-supervised fun on the gym floor, including a quick 15-minute warm-up and rules explanation! Specific activities depend on the party theme you choose:

  • Free Play Party: Explore & play in our awesome gym! Try the warped wall, leap and flip into the foam pit, and more. There is not a specific program of activities – party staff provides safety supervision and guidance for guests to have a blast!
  • NERF Party: Start with some free play time to explore the gym, and then our party staff will organize and lead epic NERF games like team vs. team and humans vs. zombies!
  • Ninja Warrior Party: Party staff will teach kids the skills they need to conquer two different obstacle courses throughout the gym! Then continue on to some free play and open practice time!

Then, for the last 30 minutes of your party, we head into our party room, which is a great time for food, cake, presents, etc. – however you’d like to use that time is up to you!

Click here to learn more about our parties and book yours!

I’ve been invited to a party here as a guest – what do I need to do or bring?

Waivers

All participants will need an electronic waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian BEFORE they can join in with party activities! We recommend filling out our online waiver form ahead of time – that way the party guest has more time for fun! Click here to fill out the waiver.

Who can sign? The person signing for a minor child (under 18) MUST be that child’s PARENT OR LEGAL (COURT-APPOINTED) GUARDIAN. Other relatives or friends who are not the child’s legal guardian MAY NOT SIGN THEIR WAIVER.

What if a child doesn’t have a waiver signed? If the child doesn’t have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, they will not be allowed to participate.

What if the child’s parent or guardian is out of town/arriving late/gave me permission – then can I sign? No. We don’t like being strict about this, but we have to be!

What to bring:
  • Bring a water bottle!
  • Wear clothing that you can move, sweat, and go upside down in!
  • Avoid jewelry that could catch on equipment or on your body.
  • Bring athletic shoes with rubber soles for good grip! You’ll have the option to go barefoot, but some equipment (bars, etc.) may be uncomfortable in bare feet.

Waivers & Mindbody

Do I have to fill out a waiver for myself or my child?

Yes! Everyone must have a completed waiver on file BEFORE they go out on the gym floor. We strongly recommend filling it out ahead of time – it is submitted online, so there’s nothing to print out or bring in with you. Click here to complete the waiver you need!

Signing Into Mindbody – Child vs Adult Account

Getting Started
To create an account and password you must first fill out the online waiver. If you have not yet done so, click here to fill out our online waiver!
Parents!
When you filled out our waiver for your child, an account was automatically created for them with your email address as the username. To set a password for your child’s account, follow this LINK for sign in, then click the Need password? link in the bottom left corner of the sign in box and follow the instructions!
Next it will ask you to enter your email.  (Remember this is usually the same email whether you’re trying to sign into your adult account or a child account!)
Next it will ask you to enter what they call the “student’s name”.  You actually want to enter the name of the person who you want to sign in as!  So if you want to sign in as the adult, enter your own first and last name.  If you want to sign in as the child, enter that child’s first and last name.
Mindbody will then send you an email where you can set up a new password for that account.  You will have multiple accounts, with the same email username but different passwords.
Why would I want to sign in from my child’s account?
Most booking can be done from the adult’s account.  But there are a couple good reasons to sign into your child’s account.
1. Member only purchases: If your child has a membership, some member only purchases may not be available to the adult account.
2. Your Child’s Schedule: When signed in to your child’s account you have the option of clicking “my schedule” to see all the classes and events your child is scheduled for.  You can also click  “visit history” to see all the days you’ve signed them up for in the past!
Usually you’ll want to be signed into the adult account to be able to view your “purchase history”.
